and قوة تميز و تشخيص reason; faculty to discriminate between right and wrong and good and bad, said generally of the mental ability of any person of sound mind but also of young boys before the age of puberty who are nonetheless suspected to know the facts of life in addition to their ability to discriminate between good and bad, their intellectual status practically making them persons of age and warranting at least a moderate degree of hijab by the females in their presence, that is females outside their immediate family. Such boys or girls are technically designated مُمَيِّز or reasonable despite their being below the age of puberty.
